Our Climate Change Program
HERO's climate change program focuses on advocacy, mitigation and adaptation. It enhances the resilience and self-reliance of communities in South Sudan, affected by climate change and environmental degradation, particularly those impacted by floods and oil industry activities.
By promoting sustainable agricultural practices, gender equity, and social inclusion, and by strengthening disaster risk management and environmental awareness, we aim to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change and pollution.
Our Focus Areas
Raising awareness about climate change impacts and advocating for policies that support environmental protection and climate resilience in South Sudan.
Promoting climate-resilient farming practices that help communities adapt to changing weather patterns while ensuring food security.
Strengthening community capacity to prepare for and respond to climate-related disasters like floods and droughts.
Empowering local communities, especially women and youth, to lead climate adaptation initiatives and sustainable resource management.
Addressing environmental degradation from industrial activities and promoting conservation of natural resources.
Ensuring climate programs address the specific vulnerabilities and strengths of women, youth, and marginalized groups.
Our Impact
Enhanced food security and economic stability through climate-resilient practices that sustain communities despite environmental challenges.
Decreased susceptibility to environmental hazards through improved disaster preparedness and adaptive capacity at the community level.
Our climate change program aims to achieve improved livelihoods, reduced vulnerability to environmental hazards, and increased socio-economic stability for youth, women, and other marginalized groups. This is achieved through locally led, climate-resilient initiatives that empower communities to sustainably manage their natural resources and enhance their overall well-being.
